Idle hands…..blog

I’ve been made redundant. My first redundancy – my first dismissal actually… in any form. It feels strange but definitely not in a bad way.

Everytime I tell someone that I’ve lost my job..the first thing they say is ‘Aww I’m really sorry to hear that’- with that tone of pity and sadness – when actually I have been so excited since it was announced that we would be made redundant.. I started listing all the things I could do with the time that I could dedicate to myself and my happiness instead if sacrificing my life and energy to ‘The Man.’ One of the things I have always always wanted to is to write a book, but a blog is a good start. Start exercising my finger tips and wake up that hamster asleep on the wheel in that part of my brain.

I figure the best way to ease into it is to write about my day. Today was hectic.

– One of my plans for spending my time  is to establish my own private English lessons in town. I had an appointment to meet with a realtor in town who had a space to show, and I was late. I was basically a Zombie until 11am. My eyes were open but my brain was asleep. That wasn’t very helpful speeding off to the viewing and trying to navigate through lanes of traffic and tram lines in the morning rush traffic. But I made it unscathed.. and Jovi (my gracious passenger) managed to keep all her finger nails in her nailbed, despite clutching tightly to her seatbelt and the door handle. I made it.. and I’ll keep you posted on whether the place is a winner.

– The drama at the Arbeitsamt (employment office). I realise a lot of things in Germany are too overly specialised. Someone is trained to crush rocks and that’s what they will know inside out- how to crush rocks. How to get the rocks crushed to milligram/ millimeter specifications – but do not ask the rock crusher how to lay rocks..because getting a reasonable answer would be like trying to squeeze water out of those rocks.

Anyway, today I made some progress.. slow progress with the job office but progress nonetheless. And we’ll see how far I get on my mission to start my independent language course.
